A patient with CKD and an atypical bone fracture after long-term use of bisphosphonates’

View the EUROD clinical-pathological case discussion on September 17 2024.

The clinical case was presented by Dr. Ricardo Neto from Portugal, and discussed with prof. Martine Cohen-Solal from  France, Dr. Satu Keronen from Keronen and Dr. Mathias Haarhaus from Sweden.

Case description: Bisphosphonates remain the cornerstone of anti-osteoporotic therapy, though there are concerns regarding long-term effects. The use of bisphosphonates is off-label in advanced CKD, but there is a large overlap of patients with both osteoporosis and early stage CKD. Join us for a discussion on therapeutic options for a patient with CKD who suffered an atypical fracture after long-term bisphosphonate use.
